On July 2, 2013 at approximately 10:22 a.m., Idaho State Police investigated a multiple vehicle crash on Interstate 84 near milepost 180, near Kimberly, ID.

Maria Prieto, 14, of Murphy, ID was driving west near milepost 180 in a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer. Prietro lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle left the roadway, rolled into the median, and came to rest in the left hand travel lane of eastbound I84. Noelia Chacon, 32, of Rupert, ID was driving westbound near milepost 180 in a 2008 Honda CR-V. In an attempt to avoid striking a 2005 Toyota 4Runner, driver by Caitlin Thompson, 22, of Sandy, UT, Chacon drove into the right hand lane, striking a 2013 Chevrolet sedan, driven by Nickalos Shugars, 46, of Dubois, PA. Chacon?s vehicle then overturned, and struck the 2005 Toyota 4Runner, driven by Caitlin Thompson, 22, of Sandy UT.

Prieto was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. She was ejected from the vehicle. All other drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Prieto and Chacon were transported by ground ambulance to St. Luke?s Magic Valley Regional Medical Center in Twin Falls, ID.

The road was blocked for approximately two hours.

The investigation is continuing.
