Most Residents Allowed Home Near Jackson Landslide

JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) — Most residents evacuated due to a slow-moving landslide in the Wyoming resort town of Jackson are being allowed to return to their homes. Incident command spokeswoman Roxanne Robinson says workers opened an access road Saturday, allowing for most of the residents to return home. The landslide had slowed markedly in the last week thanks to efforts to shore up the sliding hill, which is outside Jackson's downtown area. Robinson says seven of the 46 homes and individual apartments originally evacuated remain under the evacuation order until further work on the hill can be completed. About 60 people were evacuated when the hill began sliding on April 4. So far the slide has destroyed one unoccupied home and damaged utilities. One pharmacy business also remains closed.
