SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The 92-year-old L. Tom Perry, one of the highest-ranking leaders of the Mormon church, has returned to work duties after being diagnosed with cancer.

The church said Friday that Perry went to meetings this week of the high-level Mormon governing body called the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. Perry is receiving radiation treatment for cancer found in his thyroid. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints also says that 86-year-old Richard G. Scott, another member of the quorum, is now resting at home.

Scott was hospitalized last month with gastrointestinal bleeding after doctors found an ulcer in his stomach. Church officials say Scott has experienced fading memory due to his age and is not able to take part in the quorum meetings.
