A winter weather advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. today in the eastern Magic Valley and southern Snake River Plain areas, according to the National Weather Service, including Burley, Heyburn, Rupert, American Falls and Pocatello.

Light accumulations of snow is expected in some areas, mixed with freezing rain, which will make driving dangerous and cause difficult travel conditions.

Emergency crews kept busy early Friday because of several crashes and slide-offs due to icy road and highway conditions.

The NWS says that additional snow of 1 to 4 inches is possible north of Shoshone and along the eastern benches through Saturday.

“Areas of freezing rain transitioning from Burley area this afternoon into the Pocatello area late this afternoon and evening,” according to the NWS. “Be prepared for snow-covered roads and limited visibility … and use caution while driving.”
