BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Two charter school funding bills that so far have been on a difficult path to passage may face another round of changes in the Idaho Senate. One measure would make the state's 40 charter schools eligible for state funding to cover a portion of their facilities and maintenance costs.

A second bill allows nonprofits and Idaho public universities to launch charter schools. Both bills have passed in the House. But on Monday, the Senate Education Committee suggested several amendments, including tying charter facilities dollars more closely to a state funding stream used for public school buildings.

The committee's GOP chairman John Goedde of Coeur d'Alene expressed concerns over allowing nonprofits to operate charter schools. Goedde didn't provide specifics, but he expects to proposed changes on that bill as well.
