HELENA, Mont. (AP) — Montana wildlife officials think they've hit on the right formula in regulating the state's wolf hunting and trapping season.

Fish, Wildlife and Parks officials are seeking no changes to the regulations in place after experimenting with different quotas and season dates in previous years. They also want to stick to the limit of 100 wolves total that landowners can kill because of potential threats. The Fish and Wildlife Commission took up the 2015-2016 regulations at its Thursday meeting.

The commission will take comments from the public before making a final decision in July. The state's wolf population has dropped to a minimum of 554 wolves from a high of 653 in 2011, and landowner complaints and livestock losses also are down.
