Rupert, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) - Minidoka County Sheriff Kevin Halverson has reached a plea agreement following the felony charge of misuse of public money by a public officer. Monday in Magistrate court, Halverson agreed to turn in his resignation as sheriff of Minidoka County by 5 p.m.

He is charged with using a county gas credit card for personal use. It’s alleged he charged $241.75 on that card. During his upcoming district court arraignment he will enter his plea which is expected to be guilty.

The state is recommending that Halverson receive a four year suspended sentence with two years fixed. Any county jail time will be determined by the court. Halverson will also be required to undergo alcohol and mental health evaluations.
