RUPERT, Idaho (AP) — Idaho officials have fined a high school over student chanting at a basketball game, saying the chants singled out an individual for harassment.

The Times-News reports that Minico High School in Rupert was fined $1,500 Wednesday by the District Board of Control, an extension of the Idaho High School Activities Association.

District IV board secretary Rod Malone says the board decided the chants at a Jan. 28 game against Burley High School went too far and deserve the steepest fine the board can order.

Minico High School students began shouting the name of a specific Burley player's mother. The woman is also a former administrator at Burley High School and was sentenced to prison for sexually abusing two students.

The Minidoka Joint School District superintendent says the Minico administration is embarrassed by the incident.
