Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor Brings the Fight to Sauron

After watching this eight-minute long gameplay walkthrough of Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor, we can’t wait to stalk Sauron’s forces beyond the black lands. Sure, we have killed plenty of orcs in our heyday, but not like this. Shadow of Mordor takes the tried-and-true methods of both stealth gameplay and open, third-person combat and blends them together with its unique premise that everything in the world is interconnected. In other words, every single action you do in Shadow of Mordor has ramifications later on, and strategically planning these actions will help you in the long run.

In Shadow of Mordor, you play as Talion, a ranger of Gondor and watchman of the Black Gates between Gondor and Mordor. Taking place between ‘The Hobbit’ and ‘The Fellowship of the Ring,’ Sauron and his captains return to Mordor and rekindle the fires of war in his tower, Barad-dûr. Sauron’s forces then widely spread throughout the entire country, resulting in Talion’s family and all of his men being slain at the Black Gates. Talion miraculously survives, finding himself with new “Wraith” powers, which, you might remember, belonged to the nine Ringwraiths that were chasing Frodo throughout ‘The Lord of the Rings.’ It is from these Wraith powers that Talion’s quest of revenge against Sauron’s army becomes much more intriguing.

Based on the video, Talion’s Wraith powers act similarly to the Eagle Vision of the Assassin’s Creed series. Also, Talion can teleport and fly towards enemies as a Wraith in order to close large distances fairly quickly. Once Talion has a hold on a lone enemy, he has a number of jobs he can force his victim to carry out. High-ranking orcs can be sent to their commanders in an attempt to assassinate them, which would help Talion finish the job once he arrives. Captured orcs can also rally their own forces against other platoons, in order to create chaos among the army. Talion can also force his captives to simply run around their camp screaming about Wraiths, focusing everyone’s attention on the crazed orc and off of the Wraith itself.

We can’t wait to see just how far Talion’s lone crusade against Sauron will go once Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor is released on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PC later this year.
