BOISE (KTVB) -- Micron is planning a $200 million expansion at its Boise campus.

Micron says demand for its memory solutions continues to grow.

To meet that market opportunity, Micron says it plans to expand its research and development facility.

The new facility will be known as Building 51 and will be built next to Building 50, for those familiar with the Micron campus.

Micron says it has introduced several new product advancements over the past year, which they say have positioned Micron competitively within the computer memory and storage industry.

The company says it is committed to innovating new memories, meeting customers' needs, and capitalizing on market opportunities.

And they say a new research and development facility in Boise is critical to the company's growth.

"So much opportunity, market opportunity to capitalize on, and a lot of that's gonna be at the nerve center in Boise over the next several years, so we're really excited to see how, not just this expansion specifically, but how this company continues to take off in the Boise area, not to mention globally," said Micron spokesman Neil Wu Becker.

Construction is expected to begin in October and be completed by 2017.

A spokesperson for Micron would not say how many jobs this $200 million expansion might bring to the area.

Micron currently employs about 6,000 people in Idaho.

Micron expects to announce more information about the project, including the expected number of jobs created by this expansion, at a later time.
