BOISE, Idaho (AP) — An 18-year-old Meridian man who pleaded guilty to accidentally shooting his 15-year-old friend has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.

KTVB-TV reports that David Provencio was sentenced Tuesday in 4th District Court and must serve five years before becoming eligible for parole.

Provencio pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in December following the shooting death of Tristan Fenton.

Prosecutors say Provencio pointed a handgun at Fenton's head and pulled the trigger, not realizing it was loaded. They say several people were at Fenton's house drinking and smoking marijuana before the shooting.
