Memorial Planned for Killed Troops Based at Fort Bliss
FORT BLISS, Texas (AP) — A memorial service will be held this month at a West Texas post for five soldiers killed in a bombing in Afghanistan. Officials at Fort Bliss say a service has been scheduled May 22 at the post chapel. The five Fort Bliss soldiers died May 4 in Maiwand, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when an improvised bomb damaged their vehicle.
The victims were Spc. Thomas P. Murach of Meridian, Idaho , 1st Lt. Brandon J. Landrum of Lawton, Okla.; Staff Sgt. Francis G. Phillips IV of Meridian, N.Y.; Spc. Kevin Cardoza of Mercedes, Texas;; and Spc. Brandon J. Prescott of Bend, Ore. All were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 36th Infantry, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division at Fort Bliss.
