Massive I-84 Pile Up Near Meridian

BOISE (KTVB) -- A logging truck driver that police say caused an accident on Interstate 84 in Meridian in January that led to a massive 44-vehicle pileup has been cited for inattentive driving.

Teresa Baker with Idaho State Police confirms that 38-year-old Cory D. Ford of Emmett was cited Wednesday. Police have been waiting for toxicology results on the driver, which came back clean.

Ford was behind the wheel of a 2004 Kenworth logging truck when it sidewiped a tractor-trailer and rear-ended a Subaru Forester.  Ford was injured in the crash, but Baker says he has returned to work.

Ten people were hurt and taken to the hospital after a chain reaction of collisions that morning, including the driver of the Subaru whose vehicle was crushed.

The pileup occurred as motorists entered a wall of fog during the morning commute. The westbound lanes of I-84 in Meridian were blocked for nearly five hours while emergency crews responded.
