Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) - Twin Falls authorities say a Hispanic male died after jumping into Dierkes Lake near Shoshone Falls Sunday evening.

The Twin Falls county sheriff deputies and the Twin Falls Police department were called to the park at 8pm after the park ranger began reported he had begun CPR on the man. The man, whose name and age is unknown at this time and believed to be from Mexico was swimming with friends. Witnesses say someone allegedly dared him to jump in the lake from the swimming dock area near the kayak rental. Apparently he panicked, going under the water. When he resurfaced he was reportedly unconscious.

A Twin Falls County Sheriff Deputy began using a AED until paramedics arrived. The victim was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Alcohol may have been a factor in the drowning accident.

Josh Palmer with the city of Twin Falls said there was no lifeguard on duty. They are starting their training today and officially will be monitoring the swimming area on Friday June 13.
