Burley, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) - Cassia County Deputies were called to 426 West Highway 30 at about 7:25 a.m. Friday morning after a report of a male wearing dark clothing ws spotted by a home owner inside the residence.

Chief Deputy George Warrell said that the male fled on foot but deputies learned that another home was also entered and multiple vehicles had been gone through. The homes and vehicles were unlocked. Deputies canvassed the area and located a male identified as Ruben Ortiz Jr. 19 from Burley at a nearby residence the belonged to a friend of Ortiz.

Ortiz was arrested on a warrant for probation violation and he also had a small amount of marijuana in his possession.  Cassia County detectives are currently conducting an investigation into the home burglaries and are working on an affidavit charging Ortiz with the two home burglaries and multiple vehicle burglaries. Ortiz will also be charged with burglarizing vehicles in the city of Burley. Detectives anticipate filing these charges with the Cassia County Prosecutor’s Office next week. Ortiz is currently in custody on probation violation and marijuana possession charges. Detectives believe more than one person has been committing the rash of car burglaries in the city of Burley.
