I was watching a romantic movie with my wife the other night and the male lead took his love interest on a whirlwind, amazing, and romantic date complete with quiet out of the way locations, flowers, and the most amazing food. As we watched, I could see the wistfulness growing in my wife’s eyes. We haven’t gone on a date in quite some time, and as the parents of a rambunctious two year old, we haven’t had a lot of quiet time.

We decided to have a weekly date night. The idea is simple: no kids, just us for one evening a week. The date doesn’t have to be elaborate or expensive, and can be as simple as dinner and shopping, but at least one date a month we agreed to spoil ourselves a bit. We came up with a list of places right here in the Magic Valley that we felt would be great date night locations!

Shoshone Falls / Dierkes Lake
Cost – $3 per car
Shoshone Falls is among the most spectacular of natural beauties along the Snake River. At 212 feet, the falls are higher than Niagara Falls. They are best viewed during the spring and early summer, when water flows are high - depending on winter snow melt. The City of Twin Falls owns and operates the Shoshone Falls/Dierkes Lake Complex. It offers a unique blend of recreational facilities, including playgrounds and hiking trails, landscaped picnic areas, a boat ramp and swimming area, and a scenic overlook.

Shoshone Ice Caves
(visitidaho.org)
Cost – Adults $8, Seniors $7, Children 4-12 $5, Children 3 and under-free
This natural wonder is actually a lava tube that is 1,000 feet long, with an ice depth ranging between 8 and 30 feet in height. Take a tour and explore the trails but be sure to dress warmly, even during the summer months. Constant below freezing temperatures make a pleasant contrast to the often scorching summer heat—the "ice" in "ice caves" is caused by air currents flowing through the tubes, which causes subterranean water to freeze.
