Twin Falls, Idaho (KMVT-TV/ KSVT-TV) A heartwarming reunion Thursday, as a WWII Vet was reunited with his long lost medals.

92-year-old Ernest Borens was reunited with his medals, and honored for the modest man his friends and family say he is. Borens, a Twin Falls resident, joined the United States army when he was 21. He served as a medic and was wounded in action. That is how he earned the Bronze Star with Valor.

His awards and decorations consist of; the Bronze Star with “V” Device and 1 OLC, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic–Pacific Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, and Combat Medical Badge. Numerous family members and friends showed up for the ceremony. Borens was presented his Purple Heart on behalf of the Purple Hearts Reunited Foundation. The medals were found in California where Borens worked construction as a younger man. The medals were given to the foundation to find their rightful owner and within a day, Borens was located.

Purple Hearts Reunited is a nonprofit foundation that was created in 2012 by a combat wounded veteran. They have returned medals and artifacts to over 150 families and museums.
