Microsoft has updated the number of Xbox 360s sold around the world, revealing almost 76 million people have purchased the console.

With the release of the latest quarterly financial report from Microsoft comes news the company has sold 75.9 million Xbox 360s. As of the same time last year, Microsoft had sold 70 million. That means nearly an average of two million 360s were sold every month for the past year.

Oddly enough, the number of actual Xbox Live users hasn't shifted that dramatically. In fact, Microsoft reported around 40 million users during the same period last year, and the financials reveal that number is virtually unchanged as of the last quarter. Why so many people are buying Xbox 360s but not joining Xbox Live is a question only Microsoft can answer, but it will be interesting to see how the service grows if and when the company's next generation console arrives.
