Riot’s League of Legends Short is Action-Packed Awesome
Riot Games has released a new cinematic video for their hit Multiplayer Online Battle Arena, League of Legends, featuring a frenetic, thrilling battle between the game’s good and evil forces.
As described in the video’s blurb, “A battle begins as a new dawn rises… over a landscape consecrated by blood and steel.“ The gorgeous six-minute cinematic video brings series favorites like Ahri, Leona, Draven, Jax, Nautilus and Zyra together in an epic conflict. For fans of action-based animation, it’s a beautifully rendered action scene that manages to tell a solid combat-based story despite a complete lack of dialogue. For League of Legends fans, it helps flesh out characters while translating plenty of in-game elements into exhilarating 3D action. Watching Leona block Darius’ Noxian Guillotine attack with her Shield of Daybreak gives a whole new perspective to the gameplay, and seeing Ahri’s Orb of Deception hit Zyra on the way back is just plain cool.
As a League of Legends virgin, I was still drawn in by the excellent animation, intriguing characters and spectacular fight scenes in the video. If the intent of Riot’s cinematic video is to bring new players to League of Legends, it has already worked on one gamer; I’ll be checking it out later today.
