Update:

IGN has released a new picture of Kung Lao fighting Scorpion (provided below), giving us our first real look at the Shaolin Monk's ensemble. It seems that this older version of Kung Lao with a new, serrated throwing-hat still looks raring to fight to the death.

Based on the picture, that's Goro on the left, Kung Lao in the middle and Quan Chi on the right. When asked whether or not Kung Lao was going to be getting his own trailer, Mortal Kombat X's Creative Director, Ed Boon, said the following:

It's not like Shaolin Monks own a lot of stuff, right?

NetherRealm Studios is hard at work on its newest game, Mortal Kombat X, and has a few more character details to share with its players.

Kung Lao is a classic character in the Mortal Kombat fighting game series and now it's been revealed that he will be making his way over to Mortal Kombat X. With the game not yet fully developed, there is still room for additions and NetherRealm Studios is not disappointing with its new character announcements.

IGN reports that the Kung Lao character will have a few different gameplay styles -- Tempest, Buzz Saw and Hat Trick. In a forum on Test Your Might, the user AeroGrunt translated the passage from the Finnish magazine Palaaja that details the different styles. Tempest allows Kung Lao to spin his hat aorund him and use it as a shield. Buzz Saw gives Kung Lao more control over his hat throws with a sharpened razor blade edge for super damage. Finally, Hat Trick experiments with the idea of throwing out and calling back Kung Lao's hat. The magazine also mentioned several times that Kung Lao will have some of the most variations in his three different styles of any character yet.

Players can look out for the new Mortal Kombat X that takes place 25 years after the previous installment of the series on Apr. 14, 2015.
