Ketchum to Pay for Lawyer Fees in Broken Neck Case

KETCHUM, Idaho (AP) — City leaders in Ketchum have agreed to pay up to $40,000 in legal fees for an organization that is being sued after a man fell off a roof and injured an off-duty Idaho sheriff's detective.

The Idaho Mountain Express reports that Ketchum officials say a clerical error involving the 2012 Music & Arts Showcase Sun Valley led to the city's insurer refusing to cover the event's legal fees. Ketchum co-sponsored the festival and agreed to provide insurance. At the event, a man fell on former Blaine County Sheriff's Detective Corey Weatherly, breaking Weatherly's neck.

Weatherly filed a lawsuit and is seeking damages in excess of $10,000. Ketchum's insurance provider at the time, HUB International Ltd., says it agreed to insure the city, not the festival.
