MCCALL, Idaho (AP) — A federal jury has awarded the former police chief of McCall $400,000 after finding officials in the central Idaho resort town wrongly fired him after he reported the city manager had been driving on a suspended license.

The jury on Friday also agreed with Gerald Summers that City Manager Eugene Drabinski had been hostile to him at a 2012 police department meeting. Summers was fired in April 2013 and he filed the complaint later that month. Summers says he's thrilled that the jury agreed with him that he had been wrongly terminated.

Summers started with the city as a code enforcement officer in 1997 and became police chief in 2005. Drabinski didn't return a call from The Associated Press on Tuesday.
