JEROME, Idaho (KLIX)- A Jerome woman was sentenced to three years of probation for stealing money from the United States Postal Service on Friday.

According to the United State Attorney's office Mandi R. Burns, 26, of Jerome will also need to serve 100 hours of community service. Burns pleaded guilty to misappropriation of postal funds in August this year. Burns worked as a Postmaster Relief at the Hansen post office between 2013 and 2014.

According to the plea agreement, Burns embezzled $7,156.07 from the U. S. Postal Service and $86.32 in merchandise from other victims. Burns would keep cash from customers' money orders and failed to report stamp stock sales. She also failed to report money received from P.O. Box rentals.

Burns would also place orders in other people's names for mail-order products. The U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General with assistance from the Kimberly City Police Department investigated the crime.
