Jerome Woman Sentenced for Insurance Fraud

BOISE, Id (KMVT) Attorney General Lawrence Wasden says a Jerome woman has been sentenced for one count of insurance fraud. Fifth District Judge John K. Butler gave Natalie N. Orosco a two year fixed and three year indeterminate prison sentence, ordered her to pay $1,662 in restitution to American Family Insurance, a $500 fine plus court costs and to perform 100 hours of community service.

The court suspended the prison sentence and placed Orosco on probation for three years.

Orosco, 33, pleaded guilty to one count of felony insurance fraud on November 16, 2015. By pleading guilty, she admitted to knowingly providing a false statement to her insurance company.

Orosco contacted her insurance provider, American Family Insurance, on April 16, 2013 to report her engagement ring had been lost. She also filed a report with the Twin Falls County Police Department reporting her ring lost with a value of $15,000. American Family Insurance investigated the claim and determined that Orosco had pawned her ring on March 5, 2012 and reclaimed it on April 15, 2013 one day before she filed the claim with her insurance provider.

American Family Insurance referred the matter to the Idaho Department of Insurance’s Fraud Investigation Unit for additional investigation. The case was prosecuted by Deputy Attorney General Krista Howard of the Attorney General’s Insurance Crimes Unit.
