Jerome Woman Could Face More Charges After Hitting Minivan

JEROME, Idaho (KTVB) -- A 19-year-old woman from Rupert has been charged with misdemeanor resisting or obstructing officers after a weekend crash on Interstate 84 near Twin Falls.

Idaho State Police say Aileen Medrano crashed into the back of a minivan on I-84 early Sunday morning. She was booked into the Jerome County Jail. Online court records show the 19-year-old was also cited on a charge of failure to wear a seat belt and failure to provide proof of insurance.

A pretrial conference has been set for March 28. A spokesperson for ISP says the crash is still under investigation and more charges could be filed in the future. The crash happened before 1 a.m. Sunday morning. A group of five parents of Columbia High School wrestlers was traveling in the minivan.

They were heading to Nampa from a  wrestling tournament in Idaho Falls when they were hit. Head Wrestling Coach Todd Cady told KTVB the impact caused the van to roll off the highway. Jessica and Hector Rodriguez were not wearing their seat belts and were ejected from the van.

Both suffered serious injuries and were flown to the hospital for treatment. They remain at Saint Alphonsus in Boise. Three other parents who were inside the van were treated for their injuries and released from the hospital earlier this week.
