TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) — A Jerome man has been found not guilty of shooting and wounding another man at a Twin Falls park and will be released after serving nearly a year in jail for the crime.

The Times-News reports 27-year-old Fred Zapata Paiz was acquitted of aggravated battery and aggravated assault charges Thursday related to the Sept. 1 incident. Paiz was charged along with Jesus Hilario Manjares-Contreras for the shooting of Marcus Loya, who was struck by a bullet in the arm.

The two men had been spotted on surveillance video buying milk at a grocery store hours before the shooting. Defense witnesses testified Paiz had been dropped off by Manjares-Contreras before the shooting and was at home with his girlfriend and children when it happened. Loya didn't testify during Paiz's trial.
