JEROME, Id. ( KMVT / KSVT ) The City of Jerome is considering plans for a new police station. The police department has doubled in size since the 1980's and plans to expand depend on funding and location.

On Tuesday, the Jerome City Council reviewed City Administrator Mike Williams' 2016 budget proposal. The plan for over $20 million, sets aside $421,000 thousand for a new police station and part of those funds would be raised by increased taxes. Jerome Finance Director, Ross Hyatt explains last night’s decision. “The Council gave staff to not include an increase to property taxes, but to go ahead and include just the reserves of $250,000 to put aside for a police station.

Of course that's a preliminary budget, but that's the budget that staff will bring to Council at the August 3rd tentative budget meeting." In addition to the police station, the budget includes money to renovate parts of North Tiger Drive and East Yakima Streets, and for sidewalk improvements on 10th Avenue East between Fillmore and Lincoln.
