Jackpot Airport to Get Federal Funds
RENO, Nev. (AP) — Sen. Harry Reid has announced a package of federal grants for 10 rural airports in Nevada totaling $4.3 million. Airports in Jackpot, Fallon, Winnemucca, Tonopah and Lincoln County each will receive between $100,000 and $200,000. The biggest of the grants from the Federal Aviation Administration goes to Carson City Airport — nearly $1.4 million to rehabilitate the runway and aircraft parking apron. Next is the Beatty Airport with $1.1 million to remove runway obstructions. Yerington Municipal Airport was awarded $450,000, the Silver Springs Airport in Lyon County about $384,000 and the Gabbs Airport in Nye County $262,000. Reid says big, rural states like Nevada are especially dependent on their small airports. He says it's important to maintain their infrastructure to ensure safe, efficient travel.
