How many times have you stumbled across a law and thought "that's really dumb?" Usually it applies to something we already know we shouldn't be doing, but we're doing it any way.

There are, however, laws in Idaho that are truly dumb: in Boise it's illegal to fish from a giraffe's back. No kidding. Here are more:

  • A law passed in Pocatello in 1912 provided that “The carrying of concealed weapons is forbidden, unless some are exhibited to public view."
  • Also from Pocatello: A person may not be seen in public without a smile on their face.
  • In Eagle, dirt may not be swept from one's house into the street.
  • From Coeur d'Alene: If a police officer approaches a vehicle and suspects that the occupants are engaging in sex, he must either honk, or flash his lights and wait for three minutes before approaching the car.
