ITD Hopes to Make Blaine County Highway Intersection Safer

SHOSHONE, Idaho (Press Release) – The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) is initiating a study to determine options for how to improve the intersection of U.S. 20 and Idaho 75 in rural Blaine County. The intersection, commonly referred to as Timmerman Junction, is located on the route many motorists use when traveling north to Sun Valley and the Wood River Valley.

ITD has invited diverse stakeholders from the Wood River Valley to participate in a community advisory committee for the Timmerman Junction Study. The first committee meeting, which is open to the public, will be held Thursday, April 7 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Blaine County Courthouse (206 1^stAve. South, Suite #300, Hailey, ID 83333). The committee will work with ITD to develop and analyze possible options, and identify intersection improvements that ITD could pursue for future funding and implementation.

“High volumes of traffic travel through the Timmerman Junction because it provides access to some of Idaho’s thriving recreational areas,” explained ITD’s Study Manager Bruce Christensen. “A series of improvements have been made to the intersection since 1990. During the study, ITD will work with the community to look at how to best continue enhancing safety and mobility at this important junction.”

Improvements to the intersection since 1990 have included installing extra signage, flashing signals and rumble strips and reducing the speed limit on Idaho 75 to 45 mph.

Kittelson & Associates Inc. is the consulting firm leading the study in coordination with staff from ITD and
Blaine County.
