BOISE, Idaho (KLIX) The Idaho Transportation Department is giving $1.4 million to help improve the safety of pedestrians and bicyclists in the state.

The funds will be available through November 4 to qualified applicants for one-time Transportation Alternatives Program, TAP, projects that focus on safety. The goal is to reduce the fatal and serious-injury crashes involving pedestrians and people on bikes through improved infrastructure. Here are some of the grant guidelines:

- Addressing infrastructure improvement to reduce fatalities and/or serious injuries, based on crash data between 2011 and 2015. See Idaho Local Road Crash Data 2011-2015 map 
- Commitment to completing the design and be construction-ready by July 1, 2017.
- Ability to provide a local cash-only match of 7.34 percent.
- Projects that have secured necessary right of way.
- Projects that have Environmental requirements that do not exceed Categorical Exclusion.
