ITD Cancels I-84 Lane Restrictions

BOISE (KTVB) -- Officials with the Idaho Transportation Department are revising their plan on daytime lane restrictions on Interstate 84 at the Meridian Interchange, one that would have caused travel headaches for commuters until late November.

According to a press release late Tuesday night, ITD says crews will be able to maintain all three lanes in each direction during daytime hours by working on one side of I-84 at a time, starting with the westbound side. Once work on the westbound side is complete, crews will move to the eastbound side.

Crews were previously scheduled to rebuild both sides of the I-84 at the same time starting today. In order to do that, ITD would have had to reduce travel to two lanes in the construction zone.

ITD and the contractor, Concrete Placing Company, say they had been working up to the "eleventh hour" to come up with a new plan to rebuild lanes and shoulders at the Interchange.

Amy Revis, ITD District 3 Engineer says, "Maintaining mobility and reducing congestion are critical aspects of the department's commitment to the traveling public as we work to complete the final stage of I-84 construction."

No other details were given on when the road work would take place.

The project is scheduled to be finished in mid-December.

ITD says the improvements are the final step of completing interstate construction in the Treasure Valley.
