ISP Makes Largest Pot Bust in Recent History

MERIDIAN (KTVB) -- Idaho State Police seized 150 pounds of marijuana during a traffic assist on Interstate 84 early Saturday morning. It is the largest marijuana bust in recent memory, according to ISP Patrol Lt. Brad Doty.

"It's very uncommon for us," said Doty. "It's probably our largest seizure in recent history. It is a large quantity of marijuana."

Doty said an ISP trooper stopped to assist the driver of a tractor-trailer, 48-year-old Michael John Wojciechowski of Florida, near milepost 42 in Meridian around 2 a.m. Saturday and noticed suspicious activity.

Officers seized 150 pounds of marijuana with a street value worth at least $500,000, along with about $2,200 in cash, according to Doty.

Doty says drug trafficking along Idaho's roadways is on the rise following the legalization of marijuana in nearby states.

"Our seizure is at an all-time high," said Doty. "So we're finding more and more marijuana, as well as larger and larger sums of money that is used to purchase marijuana, or to return from the purchase or sale of marijuana," said Doty.
