Is it Inappropriate to Put a Smiley Face on a Work Email? [Audio]
Apparently it DOESN’T make your boss like you more when you sign emails with a smiley face.
A survey by Staples asked workers to name the most inappropriate thing people put in work emails.
Here you go.
#1.) Signing emails xoxo, or actually writing “Hugs and kisses.”
#2.) Calling people “honey” or “dear.”
#3.) Using acronyms like OMG or LOL.
#4.) Using smiley faces or other emoticons.
#5.) Talking about personal weekend plans.
We asked you what you thought about smiley faces in emails and our response was split down the middle. Some of you said that is was perfectly fine and others said it could lead to misunderstandings and termination.
