Calvin Johnson had a game for the ages in the Detroit Lions' Week 8 win over the Dallas Cowboys. He caught a video game-esque 14 passes for 329 yards and a touchdown, making catches against anywhere from one to three defenders all over him. Is Megatron the best player in the NFL?

Johnson battled a knee injury earlier this season, forcing him to miss the Lions' Week 5 game against the Green Bay Packers, and rendering him ineffective the following week against the Cleveland Browns. Despite this, he still leads the NFL in receiving yards with 821, and his seven touchdown catches are tied for fifth in the NFL. His 117.3 yards per game are tops in the NFL.

While his numbers are certainly impressive, it may be hard to call Johnson the best player in the game, given that the NFL is such a quarterback driven league. Given all of the success that Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning has had this year, an argument can easily be made for him to claim the designation as the NFL's best player over Johnson.
