Inviting Friends and Family Into Your Home

I have some good friends who live out of town. They have always told me to call them if I ever needed a place to stay. So I decided to take them up on their offer. I called my friends to make arrangements for the weekend and the response I got was disappointing, she said, "Well, I guess we can rearrange our schedule".

This made me think that they didn't want me to stay with them at all. I was very disappointed and am now thinking I should cancel my trip because they only invited me to stay with them out of politeness. They don't really want me to stay.

What do you think, when someone invites you into their home do they really mean it or are they just inviting you to be polite?
