BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Six waterfront parcels owned by the Coeur d'Alene Tribe are due to be put into its trust, a move that would lift county and state oversight and allow the Indian group to manage its property according to its own land use and environmental rules.

The Coeur d'Alene Press reports the land has been discussed for years as a possible waterfront extension of the tribe's casino, a golf course or a nature preserve. But tribal officials say the only immediate plan for the 370 acres on two Lake Coeur d'Alene bays is to use it as a wildlife preserve.

The tribe bought the land from late Silver Valley business mogul Harry Magnuson years ago. With trust land, the federal government holds title but the beneficial interest remains with the tribe.
