Idaho Transportation Projects in Running for National Award

BOISE, Idaho (KLIX) – It’s election season across the country, but it’s not just about politics.

A pair of Idaho transportation projects is in the running for a national award, according to the Idaho Transportation Department. If they win, the $10,000 in prize money will be split among the College of Engineering programs at the state’s three major universities

The department says the projects could use the public’s help to propel them to the top.

In selecting Idaho's two projects, the judges recognized a historic investment in the state’s roads and bridges during the last decade through Idaho’s GARVEE Program, according to ITD, and a collaborative project in southeast Idaho that improves commerce, safety and the mobility of drivers — Pocatello's South Valley Connector.

The awards are a joint effort of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, AAA and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. If they win, the projects will split the prize money between Boise State University, Idaho State University and University of Idaho.

Nationwide voting takes place at Americas Transportation Awards. The winner will be announced on Nov. 14 in Boston.
