BOISE, Idaho (KLIX) Idaho public schools can expect nearly $50 million from state lands in the next fiscal year. According to the Idaho Department of Lands the Land Commissioners approved a 28% year-over-year increase to the public school endowment fund on Tuesday. Idaho schools will get $47,049,600 for Fiscal Year 2018.

According to the department the total FY18 distribution of money set a new record with $73,483,200. Other groups that benefit from state lands include higher education, state hospitals for the mentally ill, state veterans homes, Idaho School for the Deaf and Blind, juvenile corrections, prisons, and the Capitol building.

Most of the money comes from the sale of timber as well as earnings on investments. The state has upward of 2.4 million acres of endowment trust lands. The Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, State Controller, and Superintendent of Public Instruction make up the Land Board.
