Idaho Soldier Injured

BOISE, Idaho (AP) – A soldier from southwestern Idaho has been injured by hostile fire in Afghanistan. The Idaho National Guard says 42-year-old Sgt. Albert Vieth, of Star, was flying on a mission Sunday in a Black Hawk helicopter when a shot fired from the ground hit him in the forearm, exited, and then went through his shoulder. Vieth sustained serious injury to his arm and received first aid from another Black Hawk crew member before he was brought to a U.S. Army Hospital in Germany. He has since returned to the Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington state for more treatment. Vieth is assigned to of Company A, 1-168th General Support Aviation Battalion. The Idaho Army National Guard unit was mobilized in April and trained in Texas before being sent to Afghanistan May 19.
