BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The Idaho Senate has backed a measure to establish an interim committee to explore ways to reduce Idaho's corporate and income taxes. State budget writers introduced the proposal Wednesday morning and passed it on Senate floor by the afternoon, bypassing a legislative hearing.

It will be heard on the House floor Thursday. The interim committee would be tasked with reviewing Idaho's tax system and will report options on how to shave the corporate and personal income tax to the 2017 Idaho Legislature.

Senate President Pro Tem Brent Hill says the Legislature should be studying tax policy because it affects every citizen in the state. An informal tax-study group met last year to also study Idaho's tax code, but the panel failed to agree on any recommendations on possible changes.
