Idaho Republican Chairman Calls Special Meeting

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho Republican Chairman Barry Peterson has called for a special meeting to resolve the controversy surrounding the party's leadership. According to a news release, the state central committee will meet Aug. 9.

The committee will vote on a June 19 decision where Republican officials agreed that Peterson is the party's leader for another two-year term. Disputes over whether Peterson is still the head of the Idaho GOP have been the focus of party officials ever since the state Republican convention concluded earlier this month.

Delegates failed to vote on a new state chair or elect any new party officer. Multiple legal opinions have been published offering conflicting arguments whether Peterson is still the chair and whether he has the authority to call special meetings.
