Idaho Prosecutors to Seek Death Penalty in Renfro Case
COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) — The Kootenai County Prosecutor's Office will seek the death penalty for a man who is accused of killing a police officer and stealing his patrol car I northern Idaho.
The Spokesman-Review reports that prosecutors filed a notice on Thursday in 1st District Court to try the slaying of Coeur d'Alene Police Sgt. Greg Moore as a capital crime.
Investigators allege that Jonathan Renfro, who was on parole, shot Moore on May 5 as the officer questioned him because he feared Moore would find a handgun in his pocket — a parole violation.
Moore died later that evening.
Renfro's trial is scheduled to begin Sept. 6.
