IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) — The U.S. Department of Energy has awarded the next five-year nuclear cleanup contract for a site in the Idaho desert.

The Post Register reports that the agency announced Thursday that a contractor team led by Texas-based Fluor Corp. will be responsible for cleaning toxic and radioactive contamination and other duties at the site west of Idaho Falls.

DOE officials say the contract is worth $1.4 billion. Fluor beat out AECOM for the contract called Idaho Cleanup Project Core. DOE spokeswoman Danielle Miller wrote that there will be a 90-day contract transition period. A Fluor spokeswoman declined to comment, saying she doesn't have enough information.
