BOISE, Idaho (KTVB) -- A Nampa man has been sentenced to nine months in prison for taking sandstone from federally-managed land, according to U.S. Attorney Wendy J. Olson.

Forty-six-year-old Brian Kirkpatrick pleaded guilty in February to a charge of theft of government property.He admitted to stealing more than 9,800 pounds of sandstone from BLM lands between November 2012 and June 2013 to sell for use in landscaping projects.

The estimated value of the sandstone was $1,472. In addition to the nine-month prison sentence, Kirkpatrick is ordered to pay that amount in restitution, as well as another $146 in unpaid restitution for his probation violation.  He was fined $500 and ordered to pay a $100 special assessment. Kirkpatrick was on probation on a similar federal case from 2009.
