VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — A mountain biker from Idaho died Monday in an accident on a challenging backcountry cycling trail in Vancouver, British Columbia's North Shore mountains.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police say 38-year-old Jeffrey Fields of Boise was wearing a helmet but suffered severe head and neck injuries while biking alone on a trail on Mount Fromme, in Lynn Headwaters Regional Park in North Vancouver.

Fields was unconscious when he was found by other bikers and died before he could be carried off the mountain. Cpl. Richard De Jong says Fields apparently fell from a balance board, similar to a teeter-totter, which is one of the obstacles on the trail.
