HERMISTON, Ore. (AP) — A 47-year-old from Idaho died and several others were hospitalized in a collision involving 11 vehicles on Interstate 84 near Hermiston.

Oregon State Police say they were responding to a four-vehicle crash when they came across a crash involving six cars and five trucks Tuesday evening. Oregon State Police Lt. Bill Fugate said William Hernandez of Caldwell, Idaho, was killed in that collision while driving a commercial vehicle.

Firefighters extricated several others who were trapped in smashed vehicles. They were taken to Pendleton and Hermiston hospitals. Fugate says high winds and dust limited visibility and contributed to the crashes.
