BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A Caldwell man convicted for shooting two deputies last fall has been sentenced to 15 years in prison. U.S. District Judge Edward J. Lodge handed down the punishment Tuesday for Kyle Batt on one count of unlawful possession of a firearm and possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

Batt shot Canyon County Sheriff deputies Brad Childers and Mike Roth in October while they were performing a search. Both officers told the judge they continue to suffer physical and emotional pain from the injuries. Batt was convicted of felony drug charges in 2004 and barred from owning a gun.

But police were called to a Caldwell residence after a woman called reporting Batt was brandishing a gun during an argument. Prosecutors say Batt fired 11 shots at the officers.
