BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A Nampa man who bought a couple of lottery tickets when the Powerball jackpot reached nearly $580 million in late November decided to grab an Idaho $1,000,000 Raffle ticket as a Christmas gift to his family. Mark Rossiter said he figured his odds of winning $1 million in the raffle were better than winning the record jackpot. He was right, but it was a couple of weeks until he found out.

Rossiter put the raffle ticket among the branches of the family's Christmas tree and forgot about it until they took down their decorations last weekend. When he checked online he learned he had the winning number, which was drawn Jan. 2. He claimed his winnings on Tuesday. Rossiter says the family plans to pay some bills, save for college and invest the rest.
