BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A Senate panel is introducing a plan to improve Idaho's relationship with federal agencies that manage the state's public lands.

The proposal comes one month after a study committee recommended collaborating with the federal government instead of demanding a takeover of the lands. The Senate State Affairs Committee voted Monday to consider asking the state's Congressional delegation to help improve management of the land.

The end goal is to transfer federal lands to Idaho's control. However, Republican Sen. Chuck Winder of Boise says it's very unlikely any federal lands will be given to Idaho.

Senate Democratic Leader Michelle Stennett says she's concerned about the burden the plan would place on Idaho's lands agency. The resolution also sets guidelines for how any federal land given to Idaho could be sold.
